Someone said 'how can I be happy when things are not alright?' but the Word of God teaches something far removed from that. He (the Word) teaches us that happiness is a decision we make. Happiness is one of the choices a child of God makes and not a product of his circumstances.
The KJV version says 'count it all joy' meaning happiness is not a product of the happenings in your life but rather a product of your perspective. There are three kinds of Christians when it comes to this. Christians who are never happy no matter what good things happen in their life, those whose happiness is contingent or based on the good things that happen in their life and the third are those who are happy irrespective of the conditions they face.
Choose the third, be happy no matter what happens. Decide to fashion your life based on God and his word and understand that all things work together for your good so no need to worry at the smaller picture when you will win at the end.
No need to worry about individual issues because all things are working together for your good.
The way to do this is to set your mind on the good promises of God and the good things he has already done with you and for you. This will affect your emotions and subsequently make you happy. Never focus on the dark sides of life, they also affect your emotions and make you sad or bitter. If you will find the right things to set your minds on you will forever be happy.
