The Word of God is not given to us by God for us to just know something. It is given to us for us to live or act it out. The word is expected to be evident in our lives as children of God. Depending on how we are raised, we would have to make efforts to get our lives in line with the Word of God. If the way you were raised is contrary to the Word, much effort is needed on your part to renew your mind.
To renew your mind, you must first know the Word of God. This is done by making time to study the Word of God. Paul said to the young Pastor, Timothy: 'Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth'- 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV). But that is not all. When you you study the Word, it must show in your life. You should take practical steps to yield to what you study.
The mind is renewed by studying and acting upon the Word of God. One may study the Word for years, but if he does not act it, live it, he is not a doer and his mind is not renewed. Many Bible students are deceiving themselves because, they are not acting or living the word. For example, some will still take the sick to the hospital after knowing the word of God that says they will lay their hands on the sick and they will be recover without laying hands on the sick first for healing.
If you know but don't do the Word you are deceiving yourself. If the Word says 'life and death is in the power of the tongue' but you keep speaking yourself and others down, you are deceiving yourself. The word of God is not meant to fill your head it is designed to be seen in your life, so get out there and manifest the word to your world!
