And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mark 16:17 (KJV)
Over the years and through out the history of the church, there has been debates on many subjects in the body of Christ and one is the Subject of speaking in tongues. Some denominations forbid their members from speaking in tongues because to them it has ceased with the demise of the first Apostles. Others claim the reason they don't speak in tongues is because they don't understand what they speak so they don't see the need to speak what they don't understand.
All these come about because the people of God don't take time to study the Word of God and the devil knowing the essence of speaking in tongues will never leave it without controversy as he does with other important doctrines in the Bible. By far, he has succeeded in keeping many from the benefits of talking in tongues because a large number of people do not speak in tongues in the body of Christ whiles the part that speak in tongues do not fully maximize it because they don't fully understand it.
In our opening verse, the Lord said tongues speaking shall be a sign that will follow people who believe in him (Christians). In other words, if you want to know someone who is saved, one of the ways you can know is by finding out whether they speak with tongues. Now this automatically imply that everyone that believes in Jesus has the ability to speak in tongues. Now this doesn't mean all who believe in Jesus will believe and speak in tongues although they have the ability.
On the day of Pentecost when the early disciples received the Holy Ghost, Bible says they were all filled with Spirit and spoken in tongues. None of them were left out implying directly that every Christian has the ability to speak in tongues. The remarkable thing that happened that day was that even Mary the mother of Jesus who was one of the early disciples also spoke in tongues.
Acts 1:13-14 (KJV) And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
Fast forward to chapter 2, see what happened: Acts 2:4 (KJV) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. You can read from verse one it will even make it better for you. There’s no need for any child of God to stay away from speaking in tongues. They lose too much. If you already speak in tongues make a decision to even speak more in tongues this year. If you don't speak in tongues, get ready to.
Not just this reference, in Acts 10 and 19 in Cornelius' house and in the Ephesian church respectively, all who were present were filled with the Spirit and spoke in tongues another example by the Spirit to teach as later on not to be left out being filled with the Spirit.
In the few days ahead, our teachings shall be on the subject and it is aimed clarifying the concept of tongues speaking and showing you how you can start praying or speaking in tongues.
