Day 289| October 15, 2020 | Apostle Gideon C Boateng

‘And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,"These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God’

Rev 3:14

The Lord Jesus reveals Himself to His Apostle John a long time after His ascension to show Him things to come but His description of Himself tells us wonderful things worth assimilating. His description is important to take lessons from especially when the Bible entreats all Children of God to grow up to be like Him- 1 Cor 11:1, Heb 12:1-3.

The Lord called himself the Faithful and True Witness and this is one of the best descriptions any Child of God should strive to be identified with. Jesus said His disciples shall be witnesses of Him ( Acts 1:8) but as to whether we would be called faithful and true witnesses is a matter of choice and every one of us must strive for that feat. In Revelation 2:13 Antipas was called a faithful martyr or witness meaning it is attainable.

A witness as used by the Lord Jesus is not as it is commonly used in today’s language. It doesn’t mean a person who sees something happen and gives evidence to that effect. That kind of witnessing is too passive to be considered by the word used by the Lord. The word He used is closely related to the word martyr. It means a person who holds strongly to his belief in the Lord Jesus irrespective of possible danger or attacks even unto death (Rev 2:10). They will rather die instead of denying the Lord Jesus in any way. Being a Faithful witness therefore means staying consistently constant to the Lord and His course with your life despite the situations of the day or season of life.

That was the master’s attitude when He stood before the chief priests and the governor who condemned Him to death. He had the opportunity to defend Himself but chose to be quiet despising death for the salvation of the world. It is time for the church to see the likes of men and women of God who are ready to despise pain and death for the sake of the gospel. It is time for the church to witness the gospel of Jesus shamelessly to the world following the steps of the master. True and faithful witnesses should be our accolades when we appear before Him to be rewarded.

I am a faithful and true witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I live for the salvation of men and nothing in this world can hinder my witnessing for the Lord
