And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught. And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
Mark 1:21-22 (KJV)
One way the master was noticeably different from the religious people of His day was in the way He lived. The way He taught, cast out devils and healed the sick was totally unfamiliar to the people of His day. He was full of the Spirit and Power and never helpless in the face of varying life circumstances; whether coming face to face with the dead or raging storms in the middle of nowhere, He was always in charge.
What they were used to was a feeble reading of the scrolls accompanied by a similar commentary or narration by the scribes, nothing more. But here in our opening verse, we see Jesus personalizing the Word (Luke 4:18) and living it. When a devil tried to interrupt the service, He commanded it to be quiet and to come out immediately, proof that He was not just a talker but a man of authority.
He lived that way to show us to approach life in authority. Many teachers of the word and Christians today have fallen into the same trap the scribes fell into. There's no faith in their messages and they sleep when the supernatural is set for discussion. Very different from the Lord Jesus. All they have is explanations but no real-life results of what they profess. It is time to arise to live as the Lord lived. 1 John 2:6 (NET) The one who says he resides in God ought himself to walk just as Jesus walked.
Authority in life as a Christian is sourced from accurate KNOWLEDGE of GOD derived from proper ACQUAINTANCE with Him. Meaning, to live in authority, you need to know more about God, your new life in Christ and Christianity itself. Know what God has said about you. Spend time to learn about who you are and also spend quality time fellowshipping with the Lord daily, it helps your confidence level and gets you all pumped up for the kind of life the Lord led. Lastly, let no one sell you their unbelief, always side with the Word and be ready to do whatever the Word says.
