Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Ephesians 4:13-14 (KJV)
There are many things misconstrued for spiritual growth. Some equate numbers of souls 'won' to personal spiritual growth in the Lord whiles others use the increase in ones scriptural knowledge as the measure. But all these are not correct. Real spiritual growth is in Christ being magnified in you. I dare say that anyone who transforms more and more into Christ will have an increased knowledge in the Word of God and win souls but those activities on their own are not personal growth.
The increase of knowledge of the Holy Scriptures is not growth; the increase of Christ in us is growth. Less of self, even none of self, is growth. Think little of ourselves- no, think nothing of ourselves- and that is growth. When Christ begins to have preeminence in us and be magnificently seen in us then there's growth. The goal is in our opening verse. To come to the knowledge of the Son of God, that is the full and precise acknowledgment of the Son's unison in us. Walking in the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.
The real growth is in we decreasing and Christ being revealed. Others have erroneously thought to also grow in love, patience, wisdom etc., then they would have grown. The increase in all those virtues on their own in us are not growth but the acknowledgement and realization of Christ in us in all these virtues- Wisdom, Love, patience is. He is become all things to us.
