And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Matthew 6:5-6 (KJV)
One quality of our Heavenly Father is that He is hidden or better put, He deals in the secret. God has chosen to be out of the full glare of the world only to be known by those who pursue him. But not only that, He is also not impressed by the outward display by people that is not congruent to their secret life. Our opening verse says He sees in secret.
Now, the temptation for man is to try to put out an outward showmanship and display of glory which in reality may not correspond to their life in the secret to receive the applause of men. Be in the known that, this only impresses men not God. Men look on the outward but God sees in the secret (1 Sam 16:7).
Why try to please men when in essence God is the one you are going to be accountable to. Free yourself from the pressure to impress men and live for God. Esteem your life in the closet more than on the pulpit. In a time where everyone is putting out a nice act to receive the praises of men, make God your priority. What wisdom is there in pleasing colleague sons or servants in a house when the master is not enthused about us. Paul said 'If I please men, I am not a servant of God'. The master said 'don't fear men who only kill the body but cannot kill the soul'
If all your life seen in the public is all you have with God, then you are missing greatly. If all the prayers you do is what you do in church, then you don't have a prayer life. Christianity and ministry is the fellowship we have with God not what is done on the pulpit. Sacrifice to have a personal devoted life to God that is known by only the two of you it is great treasure!
