Day 353| December 17, 2020 | Apostle Gideon C Boateng

'…For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.'

Luke 19:10 (NLT)

The master made this statement in the house of Zacchaeus, you know the name right? A well-known chief tax collector who made so much money through over charging people in their tax payments. Tax collectors were recognized in the society as typical sinners and for the chief of them, a chief sinner. Everybody knew Zacchaeus to be a mean man who made so much money by dubious means.

It all happened that Jesus was going through Jericho the town where Zacchaeus lived. Characteristic of his ministry, the whole city was elated and multitudes crowded after him, the crowd was so much that Zacchaeus a man of small stature decided to climb up a tree on the way the master was using in order to catch a glimpse of the man of God. In his mind, he was going to have a sneak view of the Lord unbeknown to him; the master was there because of him. As Jesus got to the tree He had climbed, He suddenly stopped and called him by his name, and asked him to come down because he was going to be his guest that night! Oh, was the man happy? Chills went through his body as he climbed down the tree thinking to himself, ‘my house’.

That was too much for Zacchaeus he was ready to give up his wicked ways at once and follow the master but the crowd, the crowd was so displeased. They want God to punish the wicked. The people were displeased. "He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner," they grumbled (Luke 19:17). That is what it still is today. Men feel it is justifiable for God to punish the ungodly. But the Bible says in 2 Peter 3:9 He (God) isn't really being slow about his promised return, even though it sometimes seems that way. But he is waiting, for the good reason that he is not willing that any should perish, and he is giving more time for sinners to repent. God is not interested in punishing the wicked he wants to save them.

Never run away from the master because of guilt, He paid it all. Let’s close with this verse from the message Bible Rom 8:39 high or low, thinkable or unthinkable — absolutely nothing can get between us and God's love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.

The Lord came for me, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable — absolutely nothing can get between me and God's love because of the way that Jesus my Master has embraced me.
