Day 3 | January 3, 2021 | Apostle Gideon C Boateng

And if I give all my goods to the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it is of no profit to me.

1 Corinthians 13:3 (BBE)

The world's definition of love is not God's definition of the subject. The world for example equates love to giving so it is common for one to hear people say: 'if you love me, do this and that for me'. Some say if you don't give to them you don't love them but this is not the definition of love. Our opening verse said it is possible to give all you have without love, are you aware? You can even offer to die for someone and it will not be love. Love is not the same as giving. Love is far bigger, better and higher than giving. Take note, people can give out of their selfish ambition of getting your attention or winning your trust not out of love for you.

This is Love, it is the active and conscious interest in people, places and things to bring them in alignment with the will, plan and purpose of God for them (from my book understanding the love of God). Love is never passive, it is a deliberate action taking. It is more than feelings or affection as given to us by the dictionary because God who is love doesn't have the carnal feelings some call love. True love in the eyes of God is hinged on four pillars; it is universal, sacrificial, unconditional and transformational. Anything outside of these pillars cannot be called true love.

Universal means your love is for everyone irrespective of their country, race or colour. True love goes out for everyone everywhere and never ethnocentric or tribalistic.

Sacrificial means love makes sacrifices to achieve the purpose of God. It is by this pillar that love gives but giving on its own is not love if not directed at achieving the will of God or making things or people better. Unconditional means love is not based on the actions and in actions of people or things. You don't love people because they loved you or did something for you. You love irrespective of what happens.

Finally love is transformational. This means true love's motive is to make things better. If it destroys them, it is not love. If it leaves them devastated or drawn away from God it was never love. If we walk in love today; we will never drunk or seduce anyone to have our way with them, we will never lead anyone out of God's purpose, we will not be playing on the emotions of others when we know God's plan of marriage is out of the equation.

Giving is not love but love gives. I walk in true love today. I take active and conscious interest in people, places and things and I bring them in line with God's purpose for them.
