Day 327| November 22, 2020 | Apostle Gideon C Boateng

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

Hebrews 11:24-26 (NIV)

If you’ve been a Christian for some time, you probably have had this temptation of getting presumptuous with the Lord. By ‘Presumptuous’ we mean a gradual decline, mostly unnoticed, in our value or respect for spiritual things. This change may happen so slowly it will go unnoticed. This is one of the greatest threats to our intimate walk with the Lord and we must cultivate the habit of constantly checking ourselves to ensure we don’t lose our sense of respect for the Lord and the spiritual.

Moses was highly praised for valuing the sufferings of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt. Esau was called profane because he respected food over his birth right but you are not of Esau but Israel. Israel will give up food for the unseen or the spiritual (birth right). He wasn’t going to be familiar with the blessing of God like His brother. It is not wisdom to get used to God and the things of God such that they no longer mean much to you.

Was this not what the Lord pointed out to the church at Ephesus in Revelation? I like the message translation of that verse. Rev 2:4 "But you walked away from your first love — why? What's going on with you, anyway? Do you know you can read the Bible over and over till it doesn’t mean much to you anymore as before? Already for some Christians, some verses like John 3:16, Ps 23 no longer minister to them because they have recited it over and over till it lost its relevance to them. Don’t get to the point where church and fellowship meetings are one of the things you do out of duty but not to be blessed. Place value on the Lord and every verse from today and you will be amazed at what glory you were forfeiting through familiarity.

It is same with preachers and ministers of God. At the beginning of the call, every one message to be delivered was all life was about and it was given all the attention and prayers required but now you can so preach well that you don’t need to even think of what to say because you know by all means you will deliver. When you get to this place you’ve gradually lost the sense of value on the assignment and the impact will become stagnated or less impactful. Never get used to the Lord because there is so much in him you will never be able to discover in a life time.

Every moment of fellowship is sacred to me. I take every verse, every song and every second of fellowship seriously. I am not of Esau but Israel.
